Democratizing the Internet of Things
« on: September 10, 2023, 05:48:25 am »
Beyond the genuine commitment that the societies of the Old Continent may have to neutralize global warming, the fact of being able to assume a leading role in the direction of the energy and digital transition is one of the strategies that the EU has to counteract the loss of gravitation as a global actor. In practice, this means being able to determine where, how and with what technology to carry out actions against climate change. In this strategy, Latin America and the Caribbean appears as a relevant region in two senses. On the one hand, as a provider of resources, such as lithium and green hydrogen, that facilitate European leadership in the configuration of a productive structure based on renewable energies. On the other hand, as a “recipient” region of the energy paradigm promoted by the global North.know-how of environmental development.

In Latin America and the Caribbean, the Phone Number List regarding climate change is given by the idea of "common but differentiated responsibilities" and, in some cases, the concept that the countries of the region are "environmental creditors" is also postulated, which which involves the imperative that developed (and more polluting) countries must offer financing mechanisms to carry out effective actions against global warming.

As part of renewed European interest in Latin America, the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced an investment of 45 billion euros , within the framework of the Global Gateway, an EU investment platform aimed at projects such as the promotion of renewable energies and digital services. Indeed, more than 70% of the Global Gateway projects for Latin America and the Caribbean focus on issues such as the development of minerals such as lithium and copper, the promotion of clean hydrogen and the implementation of green bonds.
